Remembering the History Of Thanksgiving Day

The history of Thanksgiving Day started with the Pilgrims and Native Americans coming together to commemorate a successful harvest. The first three-day Thanksgiving feast was celebrated during the fall of 1621. The local Wampanoag tribe, as well as Chief Massasoit joined the Pilgrims in the feast.  They gave thanks for the bountiful harvest and ate deer, fowl, fish, clams, berries, boiled pumpkin and plums.  With the history of Thanksgiving Day, it is today a national holiday which is celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday of November.

Happy Thanksgiving Day is a day to have a good time with family and friends. It is a day to give thanks for life’s blessings with a prayer before dinner. It is also a day to eat to your heart’s content with of course the roasted turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, yams, mashed potatoes, bread rolls, green beans and pumpkin pie.

The history of Thanksgiving Day gave us a night of eating and socializing. With that in mind, it would be wise to wear comfortable but stylish clothes. You would want one that is loose, holiday and family oriented and of course an elastic waistline. Remember that you will be with different types of people including older family members and kids and you would not want everybody to be uncomfortable including yourself. Stay away from low cut tops and too short dresses or skirts. Pick also clothes that will be comfortable when cooking, playing with kids outside or just sitting on the couch watching the Thanksgiving Day parade or football on TV.

If you are cooking, make sure that your clothes are machine washable. You can wear a blouse or sweater with slacks, denim leggings with oversized sweater with a pop of color. Then dress it up with a big attractive pin, an antique brooch, necklace, fancy earrings or enormous pearls or classic bag. You can also wear a baby doll sweater dress, or a simple dress. If you will be playing with the kids outside you can add coating to your dress by wearing wool tights with boots and you can add a big sweater for extra warmness.

If you will just be inside the house, you can wear flats with your dress. And make sure to carry a light jacket or heavy coat as the temperature drops by nightfall. After this fun and festive night brought about by the history of Thanksgiving Day get ready to shop till you drop with the black Friday sales the following day.
